Past Events

Next Generation Women in Law is not traditional networking.

It is a space for honest conversation, genuine connection and the kind of professional community many women in law have been looking for, but have not always been able to find.

Across our past events, women from across the legal profession have come together to talk openly about leadership, progression, confidence, motherhood, burnout, boundaries, belonging and what it really takes to build a sustainable career in law.

These gatherings are designed to leave women feeling less alone, more confident and more connected to themselves, their ambitions and each other.

If you are wondering whether to come to a future event, this page will give you a flavour of what happens in the room.

Launch Breakfast - Birmingham

Our first Next Generation Women in Law breakfast brought together women from across the profession for a morning of real talk, shared experience and collective energy.

The panel; Norah Durrant, Lynette Lewis and Sarah Webb, offered a rare blend of honesty, humour and hard-earned wisdom. Attendees described them as powerhouse women: accomplished, warm, authentic, empathetic and refreshingly funny.

They spoke openly about progression, leadership, motherhood, boundaries and burnout. More importantly, they showed what it can look like to lead without losing yourself in the process.

One message echoed throughout the morning:

We shouldn’t have to shape-shift to fit in.

Our value does not come from becoming more like everyone else. It comes from recognising the strength in the things that make us different.

The morning created exactly what the profession needs more of: a space where women could speak honestly about the challenges they face, recognise the value of their own contributions and feel part of a community that lifts each other up.

Sabina Kauser, Yetunde Dania and Zahra Pabani were thoughtful, open and incredibly generous in sharing their journeys into law.

Their stories created a strong sense of recognition in the room. Women heard experiences that reflected their own doubts, ambitions, frustrations and hopes. That honesty was what made the morning so impactful.

Key take-aways from attendees include:

  • Be yourself at work and at home. You do not need to split yourself into separate versions to succeed.

  • Recognise how far you have already come.Confidence grows when you acknowledge the work, resilience and ability that brought you here.

  • Call out unacceptable behaviour. Change often starts in the moment, even when that moment feels uncomfortable.

  • Protect your personal life as well as your career. A successful legal career should not require the loss of everything else that matters.

“The energy within that room was so empowering and produced emotions I was not expecting to feel. I am truly inspired.”

“Refreshing to hear such honest and realistic accounts and the common ground of the battles we’re all facing.”

‘The event made me walk out with so much more confidence, and an “I can do it” attitude.’

‘It is really nice to hear from amazing women in law. It makes the field feel a lot less lonely.’

Becca Horley, Emma Beynon and Drew Wilson shared honest reflections on the challenges they have faced, the lessons they have learned and the advice they would pass on to other women building careers in law.

The conversation was generous, grounded and deeply human. It was a reminder that success in law is not just about pushing harder. It is also about knowing yourself, protecting your energy and allowing your career to be sustainable.

Key messages included:

  • Take care of yourself if you want this career to be sustainable. Rest, boundaries and wellbeing are not indulgent.

  • Worry less. Enjoy the journey more. Careers are built over time. You do not have to have every answer immediately.

  • Think about your personal brand early. Consider how you want to be known, what you stand for and what kind of impact you want to have.

  • Grandmothers are awesome!

Women In Law

Why ‘networking’ like this matters

Women in law are often navigating more than career progression alone. We are managing expectations, visibility, confidence, belonging, pressure, personal responsibilities and the unspoken rules that still shape professional environments.

Next Generation Women in Law gives you access to speakers who are accomplished but real. It creates connection across firms, roles and levels of seniority. It offers honest discussion without the performance often attached to professional networking.

Most importantly, it helps women like you leave feeling more resourced than when they arrived; language for things you have experienced, practical insight, new connections and a stronger sense that you are not the only one.
